Orbital welding
Orbital welding
Orbital welding, also called mechanised welding (TIG welding), is a specialised welding method used to create extremely precise and high quality welds. In this method of welding, a welding head is mounted on the pipe to be welded, the electrode then travels in an orbit around the pipe and the name Orbital Welding comes from the English word orbit which means orbit.
Working with pipework and welding together pipes in environments that place high demands on a clean environment places completely different demands on the equipment and method used in the work. It can be pipework in
operating theatres
hospital laboratory
● research facilities
● process and food industry environments.
At Power Heat, orbital welding is used when we perform demanding pipework and need to weld pipes in a clean environment. This automated welding method with high precision, clean welds and a consistent weld seam enables the welding of pipe diamonds as small as a few millimetres to large industrial pipes. The control system used in orbital welding is typically a combination of hardware and software that controls the welding process.
Orbital welding of stainless steel
When working with stainless steel, orbital welding is a preferred method to use. This is due to its ability to produce very clean and consistent welds with minimal risk of oxidisation and other contaminants. Stainless steel is known for its corrosion resistance, making it an ideal material choice for many industrial applications. Orbital welding of stainless steel requires careful handling to maintain these properties. Advantages of orbital welding of stainless steel are
high quality and precision
● purity - reduces the risk of oxidation
efficiency
● possible to weld pipelines in complex configurations.
Choosing the right parameters and equipment for orbital welding of stainless steel is crucial to achieving optimal welding results. We at Power Heat have extensive knowledge and well-trained staff with long experience.
When is orbital welding used?
Orbital welding is used in situations where the quality and smoothness of the weld is of utmost importance. It is used to create high quality, repeatable welds, especially in pipes and tubes where traditional welding can be difficult or in some cases impossible. Orbital welding is used in situations where the quality of the weld is of the utmost importance. The process itself is semi-automated and our welding operator mounts the orbital head around the joint; using pre-set values such as heat input and welding speed etc. the head rotates around the entire joint without stopping.
